AT THE BEAUTIFUL OUTDOOR "THEATRE UNDER THE STARS"
"Romeo & Juliet" ($10)
By William Shakespeare • Directed by Donna Devlin
“Never was there a tale of more woe than this of Juliet and her Romeo”
"Text, Thugs, and Rockin' Roles" When two members of feuding families fall desperately in love, a passionate fire is ignited that burns beyond reason, politics or even death itself. Their breathless struggle to escape the forces that would separate them drives the lovers to the height of ecstasy and the depths of despair and makes “Romeo & Juliet” the most romantic and enduring love story ever written. Our production offers a fresh take on this classic gem: Filled with tension, sensuality and stirring swordfights, it is played out against the surprisingly comic underpinnings of melodrama and bawdy, outlandish humor that is the “yin” to the tragedy’s “yang”. Join us for a bold new production of the most passionate love story ever told. This ain’t your Momma’s R&J!! (PG)
Sunday Aug. 26th, Tuesday Aug 28th , Thursday Aug. 30th

"As You Like It" ($10)
By William Shakespeare • Directed by Donna Devlin
“O, wonderful, wonderful and again most wonderful!”
Lyrical, emotional, bitter-sweet and hugely funny, "As You Like It" has long been regarded as Shakespeare's most perfectly constructed (and mature) comedy - a delicious concoction of cross-dressing and lusty pastoral pursuits, filled with song, poetry and slapstick humor. The convoluted plot revolves around the banishment of Rosalind, whose parent has been deposed. Disguised as a young man, "Ganymede", she ventures into the wilds of Arden Forest (accompanied by her loving cousin Celia and the court fool, Touchstone). There she encounters Orlando, with whom she fell in love earlier in the play. He has been banished by his evil older brother, Oliver, who (unbeknownst to him) has followed Orlando into Arden Forest to kill him. Orlando's and Rosalind's love is further complicated by Phebe, a love-crazed shepherdess infatuated with "Ganymede" and the devoted shepherd Silvius, whom she spurns at every turn. Sub-plots concerning parental vengeance and a love story with Celia and Oliver characterize a play rife with story lines about the charms of a simple life before it reaches a tidy resolution culminating in three marriages. The characters are attractive and passionate. The dialogue filled with wit, strong imagery and knowing observations. You won't want to miss this profoundly moving, irrepressibly romantic, hilarious work by a master playing at the very top of his game. As its' title implies, "As You Like It" has something for everyone! (PG)

“A participatory candy-coated learning experience with the Bard at the center!”
Two person teams of our professional Main Stage actors interweave monologues, sonnets, poems and songs from Shakespeare and classical literature in a tapestry of participation, fun and learning. It’s an entertaining, sophisticated way to fall in love with the classics that has something for everyone. We don't "dumb down" the language--it is experienced Shakespearean actors performing at the top of their game. But we DO present it in a fresh, innovative context that is accessible to the very young, old and/or uninitiated. Last year we had families returning five and six times to see our show. Come see what all the excitement is about!
